Assessment 
InTASC Standard 6: The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.
Introduction

Assessment is a crucial component of every classroom. Assessments give teachers insight into what students know. A well-designed assessment creates data that a teacher can use to identify what students meet the objective and which students need additional support. In my classroom, I implement a wide variety of assessments to ensure that all students have an opportunity to accurately demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.  Additionally, assessments are a tool that students can use to monitor and track their progress throughout the school year. In my classroom I share assessment data, help students set goals and allow students to correct their mistakes on assessments which allows students to engage in their own growth. 

 

In my classroom, I use diagnostic testing, formative assessments, and summative assessments. To engage my students in assessments I use a wide variety of engaging assessments, celebrate accomplishments, and encourage students to review their tests and written feedback. I share assessment data, data trackers, and hold individual student conferences to help students track and monitor their progress. Data from assessments informs my instruction; class performance will determine the activities we do including remediation, acceleration, or extension activities to support all students to meet success in my class.

Conclusion 

Assessment is an essential part of every teacher’s classroom. I engage my students with a wide variety of assessments, diagnostic, formative, and summative, that can be accessed by all of my students. I track monitor student progress throughout the year and encourage my students to track their own personal growth. I celebrate successes with my students to help them become more invested in assessment. Lastly, I used data from assessments to drive my planning process in order to develop lessons that meet my students where they are at.
